Mosaic artists respond to the creative stimulus of producing contemporary art with traditional materials and ancient techniques.
They are intrigued by the texture of the materials and the immediacy of the process, the play with colour over a large area and the way in which colour can create movement and dimension to an otherwise flat artwork.
Unlike paint artists who mix colours to achieve the desired hue, or unlike ceramic artists who imprint patterns onto wet clay, mosaic artists do not change the aesthetic traits their materials possess.
