The word 'zephyr' was derived from the name of the Greek God Zephyros, the God of the warm west wind, which was considered the gentlest wind.
Zephyros brought the spring season, melting the snow and bringing the warm spring rains, which soaked into the earth, helping the trees and flowers grow, and the crops grow to feed the people.
Even today the name of the god means a warm and light breeze.
