How we germinated and why we put our roots down.

The concept of Yorkie Rock Malting Co started as a small seed, when a couple of mates started brewing small batches of beer. It took root through numerous conversations at the family dinner table, numerous conversations at lunch breaks at the farm between the two mates and was nourished by our desire to taste our own wheat and barley flavours in our very own beer.

We began touring breweries within Australia and New Zealand and through our conversations with the brew masters, we identified a need for locally sourced, traceable specialty malt. (Currently, most specialty malts are imported into Australia). After extensive research and conversations with industry experts, we decided to start our very own malt house.

The sophisticated beer consumer is seeking more complex flavours and a better understanding of what goes into their craft beer. Yorkie Rock Malting Co is the missing link in the chain between the grain grower and the brewmaster. We produce a traceable, local, and specialised malt that brewmasters can use to create beer with consistent flavour and quality.
