More about WU CHI KUNG FU School No.4

Wu Chi Kung Fu is a martial art system comprised of the 8 mother arts of Chinese Kung Fu (classically called the 'Pa Chi' or the 'eight ultimates').
They are: Wu Hsing, Tan Tui, Hsing I, Chi Kung, Nei Kung, Shuai Jiao, Pa Kua and Tai Chi.
In Wu Chi Kung Fu these arts integrate to create a style that trains the mind as well as the body.

The Body:
Wu Chi Kung Fu is efficient and highly effective in a combat situation. In training however, emphasis is given to the importance of positioning, timing, co-ordination and correct application of the moves – and not on fighting. Students learn how to ‘play the moves’, and refinement is sought through repetition and constant self-evaluation. With exercises and drills used to develop your Kung Fu body, stepping, hitting, kicking, internal development and weapons training – the Wu Chi system marries ancient traditions with contemporary understanding to create a style that delivers striking power like you have never seen before.

The Mind:
Wu Chi Tao is the philosophy underpinning the physical components of the style, and can be translated as ‘the pursuit of excellence’ or ‘the pathway to perfection’.
Wu Chi Tao becomes increasingly important as a student progresses through the art (and life).
Embedded within the Wu Chi curriculum are principles aimed at promoting character development of the individual in such a way that the potentially deadly skills being trained are only ever used in extreme circumstances (hopefully never!). Material related to personal development is delivered through traditional stories – providing themes for contemplation and ideally promoting an attitude of benevolence and service in the community.

The art of Wu Chi Kung Fu is taught in an atmosphere of respect and etiquette to encourage self-discipline and to ensure that all participants gain maximum benefit from every class. There is no competitive sparring in a class, and each student is given adequate direction to improve their Kung Fu.

Wu Chi is suitable for men, women & children, and every participant is simply encouraged to work to the best of their abilities and to know their own limits. Wu Chi Kung Fu is a non-profit organisation, and no instructors receive payment for their time.

Wu Chi Kung Fu School No.4 was established by Laofu Robert Margetts in 2001, who has been training and teaching the art for over 30 years. In the Wu Chi grading system when a Sifu (master) trains up a student to become a Sifu themselves they then become a Laofu (Grandmaster) and retire from the school, giving the whole school to that Sifu. In 2016 Sifu Gavin Cook passed his red belt grading and took over the whole school from Laofu Robert Margetts.
As such the School is now run under the direction of Sifu Gavin Cook, who has been training and teaching in the Northern Rivers region for 15 years. As a teaching school, instructors are authorised by the Sifu to teach the general public, and they in turn attend an instructor training class known as Shaomen. Shaomen is an invitation only class that becomes available for some students after many years training in the ‘outer school’ classes.
