More about Wooroloo Primary School

Wooroloo Primary School opened on 4th August 1903. There were 22 children enrolled and one teacher. The students previously went to Chidlow Wells and Bakers Hill schools. In the early 1900's the timber mills and the Sanatorium (built in 1913) provided employment in the area.

The school is located in the beautiful bush, semi-rural community of Wooroloo with students coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. These include property owners with small farms, business people and people who live in the area because of the environment and/or the rental opportunities that exist. The local abattoirs, the Wooroloo Prison Farm and Acacia Prison also provide employment for the parents of students.
The majority of our students commenced at the school in Kindergarten and enjoy the benefits of small class sizes, enabling a more nurturing student/teacher relationship. The school has a close association with the other Hills, schools with students participating in a wide range of sports and other activities.
The school has a Technology Focus across all eight learning areas based on a solid foundation of Australian Values and community expectations.

The school has a majority of teachers who have been in the profession for more than 20 years. This provides a very stable and consistent staff for the school. All staff actively pursue professional development opportunities that enable them to be at the forefront of current pedagogy. The school also employs a School Based Community Liaison Officer (SBCLO) for two days/week who continually develops/maintains community programs and relationships. Our SBCLO is also employed as a School Chaplain at another school allowing us to access her skills and abilities in this area.

The school prides itself on being part of a small community that has fostered a dedicated partnership with the parent body that is genuinely committed to providing the best possible learning outcomes for all students. The school has actively pursued and developed community partnerships with local industries/groups such as the Craig Mystyn Group (Linley Valley Pork), Wooroloo Prison Farm, Acacia Prison, Mundaring Community Financial Services- Bendigo Bank, Mundaring Shire and the Wooroloo Branch of the Country Women's Association. The development of the partnerships has resulted in many extra physical/non-physical resources being provided.
