Hi, I’m Dale, and I am Smithographer, Together with my wife, Sarah, we make up the Smithographer team.
We have been photographing weddings around Australia for the last three years and have loved every minute of it. We love a good laugh and enjoy working with fun loving, genuine couples who are looking for a photographer with a unique and artistic style.
I (Dale) come from an artistic background and family with my late Grandfather being a talented photographer, my Auntie having made her living painting watercolour illustrations for various books and magazines and now painting french inspired designs for printed scarves, and my father being a skilled stained glass and lead light craft person.
I have always had artistic pursuits of various kinds, having realized about 10 years ago that photography was my calling. I love the challenge of taking something, be it a landscape, object or person, and using my creative vision to interpret what I see into a piece of art.
I draw my inspiration from many sources, primarily music, movies, and other photographs and paintings. I love Tim Burtons slightly distorted and twisted vision of reality and find a sense of wonderment in the darker side of his works.
The ability so ‘see’, and interpret light is a key skill that all professional photographers should have, and I pride myself on my ability to read light and select only the best light for my style of shooting.
We both love all things vintage and country, preferring older colonial and European style buildings and architecture. We are both much happier when we are out in a small country town then when we are in a big city and we enjoy a closer, more tight knit community. We both find much joy in getting to know the people we work with on a more personal level, and finding out what makes you tick. Sarah is a self confessed chocoholic and I (Dale), have a definite weak spot for cinnamon doughnuts.
We have a vast amount of experience in the wedding industry, having photographed weddings from many different faith groups including Hindu, Christian, non denominational Christian, Serbian orthodox, and many more.
