White Elephant Arts

The White Elephant Art Warehouse is a creative hub which offers residential and studio spaces for artists. The space also houses a gallery for visual and performance art, a venue for launch, film, fashion and theatre shows, a photo and film shoot studio, a workshop and meeting room, and a mirrored dance and rehearsal studio.
Not only providing space to create, there are regular White Elephant Creative Courses. These courses are mainly run by established local artists, at an affordable rate with the aim to support creative growth within the community.

Originating in Melbourne and now launched in Perth, WEA aims to connect West and East coast artists and unite the interstate Elephant family. White Elephant Arts is commencing an artist exchange program to successful applicants where by they will have the opportunity to hold an exhibition at the interstate WEA gallery.

White Elephant has been a lynchpin of Melbourne’s underground art scene for the last four years, featuring large-scale installation happenings, sound events and pyrotechnic displays, as well as housing a diverse group of some of the city’s up and coming talent. Founded and directed by Simone Pileggi, the White Elephant Arts complex has been operational since December 2009, contributing to Melbourne’s reputation for experimental, progressive and often confronting artworks.

In it’s four year history White Elephant has been home to an eclectic group of many professional artists working in mediums as diverse as performance, paint, sound, installation, dance, fashion design, paint, sculpture, photography, graphics, writing, and film.
White Elephant aims to continue delivering space and support for creativity and collaboration among different artists and personalities, whilst remaining independent from government funding and censorship.
