Westside Acton Park

Located on the western side of Commonwealth Avenue on the edge of the Lake — and in the heart of Canberra — Westside Acton Park is part of the ACT Government’s City to the Lake urban renewal project.

This builds on Walter Burley Griffin’s original plans for our city and will see a world class waterfront precinct develop that includes boardwalks around the entire West Basin waterfront, an aquatic centre, parks and playgrounds and much more...

As we start our second century here in Canberra, it is only fitting that our oldest suburb of Acton — from where much of the early planning for our city took place — will now house an innovative and vibrant urban space for everyone in the community to enjoy.

Built out of low cost, ready-made and durable materials, the space will be at the forefront of a new wave of contemporary architecture and design.

Everything can be reused when the pop-up park is finally dismantled and even fed back into building works around Canberra. Sustainability is a key driver for this project.

Whether you are looking for a family friendly restaurant, a cool, intimate bar for two or coffee and breakfast while doing a weekend ride around the Lake, you will find it at Westside Acton Park. The precinct will also boast a unique events space that will feature a rooftop bar with spectacular views to the Brindabellas.

On one day our bustling market square will be full of local produce and arts and crafts, on another it might host a national sporting event, and on yet another it might become the stage for a classical concert of sublime beauty. If it delights, thrills or provokes — Westside Acton Park will have it!

At the heart of our pop-up is a large square that allows us to stage a fantastic variety of cultural, sporting and retail events. Workshops, seminars, art exhibitions, festivals, music gigs, classical concerts, major national events… we haven’t even thought of all the possibilities yet! But we promise that our exciting calendar of events will inspire and entertain no matter what your budget or preference.

The square is surrounded on three sides by cafes, restaurants and shops, and at one end by a purpose-built entertainment stand that will offer box seats and catering. So whether you come for a specific event or a family meal, there will always be something happening at Westside Acton Park.
