More about Westonia Magnesite

HISTORY

I purchased this lease from John and Malcolm Rutherford of Merredin and Narembeen in 1997. Malcolm had a farm in Narembeen and had been applying this product to neutralise his soils for over a decade with fabulous results.

The quarry is located in Westonia, where the Gold Fields meet the Wheatbelt.

As an experienced Geologist I grade controlled the deposit on a 10x10m spacing and assayed for Magnesium to calculate the dimensions of the deposit. I have been crushing, screening and selling this product to wheatbelt farmers for 17 years with excellent results.

CURRENT ASSAYS: ALS MALAGA

Current Assays (October 2015) prove the grade is still +12% Magnesium, 7% Iron, 4% Calcium, with abundant trace elements such as Copper, Zinc, Manganese, Potassium and Cobalt etc.

SPECIFICATIONS

Currently crushed to a maximum 19mm with 65% passing 1mm. Finer crush sizes are available upon request, however WILL incur a higher cost.

SUITABILITY

This product is best for intermediate to sandy soils which are depleted in Magnesium due to cropping.

Farming is like mineral mining for human consumption. Every grain produced by farmers extracts minerals from the soil.

Intermediate to sand soils are generally lower in Magnesium abundance to start with, hence after years of cropping are highly likely to be deficient in Magnesium. Soil tests will show this.

WHY IS MAGNESIUM IMPORTANT?

The Chlorophyll molecule is responsible for the growth of plants, much like blood for animals. It is essential for healthy plant growth!

The Chlorophyll molecule has a Magnesium atom at it's core. This is surrounded by 4 nitrogen's and then a host of Carbon Hydrogen and Oxygen.

Without magnesium NOTHING will grow!

It cannot be replaced by any other mineral.

It is a high quality soil and not a chemical fertiliser therefore application rates are higher generally between 1 tonne to the acre to 1 tonne to the hectare. Higher application rates will provide greater longevity. This product will not wash out of the soils like a water based fertiliser.

NEUTRALISING VALUE

Westonia Magnesite has a pH of 9.4 and a neutralising value of 30%
