The Award operates on three levels, Younger Readers, Picture Books and Older Readers.
Young Readers are invited to nominate through their libraries books that they have enjoyed. These nominations are then considered by the WAYRBA committee and the three lists of finalists are drawn up.
The winner in each category is determined by children’s votes.
Eligibility
Books of fiction published within the last five years and currently in print.
May be written by a living Australian or overseas author.
Only one title of any author may be included on a list in any year.
Evaluation Young people are asked to read titles on the lists and evaluate them as ‘terrific’, ‘good’, ‘okay’ or ‘awful.’
The books on the reading lists have been nominated by the young readers of Western Australia and it is important that you carefully consider your selection policy before purchasing.
Individual authorities are expected to make their own decisions regarding any controversial aspects of books purchased for their readers.
You do not have to purchase all the books to participate in the voting.
