The Warrnambool & District Historical Society was founded in 1966 with the object of gathering material and items of local historical significance and preserving them for the enjoyment of future generations and studying the history of Warrnambool.

The Society is also interested in studying the history of Warrnambool in order to foster a greater appreciation of the achievements that have made Warrnambool a foremost rural city in Victoria.

History House is an approved Public Record Office of Victoria Place of Deposit (POD) for local historical items.
