W@K has been open 12 years and has been in the Age Good Food Guide every year. We are in the middle of our 600 acre farm which has been in the family since 1869. The iconic 'Wallace's Hut' on the Bogong High Plains was built by Grandfather William Wallace in 1889 and it was from this farm that the Wallace Bros drove their Hereford cattle to summer on the grasses. The building that houses the restaurant was built by Rod from timber that he milled from trees blown down in a huge storm in 1992. It was originally used for his fine woodworking/sculpture business and then as a venue for the restaurant.
Head Chef for the last 7 years has been Jan Waddington. The first 3 years the Head Chef was Rhy Waddington who is now Executive Chef at Winged Food Golf Club in New York. It is a family business of passionate food people. Flavour, freshness and perfectly cooked food is what we live by. Food critic, Matt Preston said of W@K that "art is at the heart of this restaurant". We also put our heart into the food we prepare.
