Verge Gallery

Verge Gallery is a not for profit space provided by the University of Sydney Union. Situated on University of Sydney’s Darlington campus, Verge engages with a wealth of creative academic thinking and dialogue through a diverse exhibition calendar and extensive public programs. Verge Gallery opened on August 5, 2009 with the vision of providing University of Sydney Students with a creative space where they could access exhibitions and events that enrich their experience on campus. Since 2009 Verge Gallery has hosted over 600 exhibitions and events, from panel discussions to live music events to market stalls and theatrical productions. In addition, Verge Gallery supports the career development of students, with extensive volunteer and intern programs and projects, providing University of Sydney students with relevant hands on experience in the arts sector.

Today, Verge Gallery’s exhibition calendar is comprised from responses to an annual public callout and is programmed by the Verge Gallery Student Committee. Our key vision is to present engaging and dynamic exhibitions from emerging, mid-career and established artists that provide a platform for critical dialogue around creative practice and current issues with forums, panels and discussions. In addition to exhibitions and events, Verge Gallery houses a diverse collection of printed media, with the Verge Reading Room boasting an array of national and international art publications, artist books and zines free to browse. Verge Gallery expands beyond our University setting to provide exhibitions and programs that are relevant to the wider creative community and content that is current, engaged and critical.
