The company has been trading for over 3 decades and is still under the reigns of Andrew McCathie who opened the business in Noble Park back in 1981. Andrew has extensive experience in the motorsport arena, specifically in the area of forest rallying, both as a successful competitor and organizer. In 1987 the company expanded from it's tyre & wheel sales & service to include steering & suspension sales, repairs & enhancements. In 1992 the company became the exclusive dealer for Victoria & Tasmania for Yokohama's motorsport product range & were also appointed Victorian agents for Avon race tyres in 1997. Traction Tyre Centre is the only Victorian company to win Yokohama's prestigious 'Dealer of the Year' award twice; 1996 and 2003.

Growth in the motorsport tyre market has been extensive over the last decade to a point where it accounts for a significant share of the company's annual turnover. The suspension side of the business has also seen strong growth over the last 8 - 10 years.
