More about Torrens Rowing Club

Torrens Rowing Club (TRC) has 2 boat sheds, our main Club rooms and Function Centre in Adelaide, South Australia on the banks of the Torrens River (Victoria Drive, next to the King William Street bridge) and a boat shed on South Australia’s main 2000m rowing course, West Lakes, Military Road.

Established from the collapse of the Banks Rowing Club in 1903, Torrens Rowing Club has promoted amateur rowing at all levels for over 100 years (see History). Torrens Rowing Club, despite being located in a relatively small rowing community boasts approximately 140 members. From the beginner, who is stepping into the boat for the first time, right through to the Olympians who have been proud members of this club, Torrens Rowing Club has for over a century ensured that it remains a strong presence in local, state, national and international regattas and has always attempted to support the individual to achieve their personal goals in any way it can.

Regular social activities also occur within the Torrens Rowing Club. Since pre-WWII, the club has held traditional gatherings such as Opening Day, Christmas Reunion and an Annual Dinner, in addition to cocktail parties, quiz nights and other fundraiser that may occur from time to time to raise some funds. There is a weekly meeting for Club members on Thursday night, where there is much discussion on rowing, regattas and exuberantly recounted tall stories.

In 2004 TRC embarked on its most bold and ambitious plan since its establishment 100 years ago when the club was first established, when it completely renovated the club. These renovations were completed in 2005 and we now have a function room suitable for functions of up to 150 people. This, combined with the magnificent view of the Torrens Lake and low costs of supplying food and drinks, has become a much sought after function venue for a variety of uses. These renovations are planned to reap the club financial benefits and ensure that the club remains economically viable by creating a consistent stream of income thereby easing the burden on members.
