Tinklers Wines and Farm Produce

The History
The first Tinkler arrived in the Hunter Valley in 1844. The 5th and 6th generation Tinklers now farm approximately one thousand hectares in the Hunter Valley at Pokolbin and Merriwa, producing wine grapes, farm produce, sheep and beef cattle.

The Vines
Tinklers commenced planting their present day vineyard in 1968. Usher Gordon formed a partnership with his two sons, Usher William and Ian Geoffrey, and planted 3 hectares of Shiraz grapes on the hill behind the present winery. They selected planting sites on their Pokolbin properties with ideal soil and aspect. In 2009 Ian Tinkler was named the Hunter Valley Wine Industry Association Viticulturalist of the year, an award that recognizes the vineyards as having achieved iconic status under the care of the nominee; research and development undertaken to improve quality; and work which has resulted in better practices for the Hunter Valley as a whole.

The Wines
In 1996 we began to make exclusive selections from their crop to produce small batches of single vineyard wines. The winemaker, Usher John, has achieved many accolades within the wine industry. He was selected as a Len Evans Tutorial scholar (2007), won The Wine Society Young Winemaker of the year (2007), The Hunter Valley Rising Star of the year (2008) and has been a finalist for The Hunter Valley Winemaker of the year (2009/11/12).

The Produce
Utilising our fertile soils and farming experience, we grow an abundance of seasonal produce including table grapes, peaches, nectarines avocados, figs and citrus. These and many other seasonal vegetables, are available fresh or there are a wide range of jams, marmalades, pickles and relishes to chose from.
