Tim Andrew

Tim Andrew was schooled in the art of flamenco guitar in Spain and prior to the Gypsy Masala band has given solo performances across the world. Venues including The Wigmore Hall in London, The Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, as well as tours throughout California and Florida.

As one of Australias leading guitarist and prolific composers Tim has written music for documentaries, would like to expand into film, and has worked on recording cds, released worldwide.

Tim has produced four independently released albums - Atlantica (1990), Tierra (1994), Zocalo (1997), Gypsy Masala recorded live at Australia's annual ABC World Music Concert (2002).

Gypsy Masala are a group at the cutting edge of contemporary world music. Headed by guitar virtuoso and composer Tim Andrew they have given stunning performances thoughout Australia and India.

Finding his passion for guitar during the 70’s playing in Rock bands throughout the East Coast during which time he discovered the wonders of Spanish Flamenco guitar. This lead to years of devoted learning and performing in England, Spain and Mexico. Returning to Perth in the early 80’s Tim has established himself as a highly regarded composer and performer of contemporary and traditional guitar. Over the years some of Tim’s students have also become exciting performers in their own right.

Tim Andrew developed his views following several years living among the Andalucian (Gitanos) of Spain, where he honed his musical skills and where he is accepted by them as one of their own, a rare compliment for a non-gypsy.
