Trek for Rights Nepal

All funds raised up to and during the Trek for Rights 2018 will support UN Women’s ongoing work in Nepal, rebuilding after the earthquakes.

Three Generations of women in our family: Grandmother, Daughter and Granddaughter, will be trekking approximately 42km up through the Annapurna Ranges in Nepal and visiting a UN Women's project in Kathmandu in April 2018, in support of UN Women.

Tom is in charge of social media. We will be writing about our own stories so far and our journey to Nepal over the coming months.

The purpose:
UN Women is the United Nations entity responsible for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality around the world. Working towards creating a safer and brighter future for all women and girls.
In 2015, Nepal was struck by two devastating earthquakes within weeks of each other. When crisis occurs, people’s lives change in an instant. Death, injury, displacement, and the destruction left behind impacts entire communities.

UN Women was on the ground responding within hours of the quakes and is still providing safe shelter, solar lanterns, radios and dignity kits to women and their families.

As part of the ongoing recovery efforts, UN Women has established multi purpose centres across the worst-affected regions. These centres are not only safe spaces for women to connect with one another, but are also information hubs on the ongoing recovery efforts, act as a referral service for psycho-social and trauma counselling, as well as offer cash-for-work programs and skills training.

The multi purpose centres provide much needed supplies and support, which empower women to be active leaders and participants in the recovery efforts.
