More about The Story of The Black Suns

In October 2011 Wagga Wagga will hold its inaugural Aboriginal Festival called Ngiyaginya. Ngiyaginya is a Wiradjuri word that means To Revive. Over four months workshops are being held in dance, music, performance, installation, storytelling, recording, street art and more to create content for this important opportunity to share the many stories of our community.

‘The Story Of The Black Suns’ documentary has been commissioned as part of the Ngiyaginya festival; directed by CSU lecturer, performer and filmmaker, Matthew Olsen, the film looks at the multi award winning Indigenous community organisation, The Black Suns Inc [TBSI].

Operating between 2002 – 2007 The Black Suns were a group of 13 young Indigenous men and women who sought to inspire youth from the Wagga Wagga community through community events, workshops and mentoring programmes to ‘Dare 2 b Deadly’ ~ in other words, to have pride in themselves and achieve great things.

Members of the Black Suns have emerged as leaders in their respective fields, and this is their story. This documentary is an examination through interviews, images and archival footage of the inspirational story of The Black Suns.
