More about The Pet Au Pair Melbourne

Melbourne Clients: Please contact for availability and for future bookings Bookings.

Hey there I'm Ash! I am a Veterinary student and Photographer.

I am fascinated with animal behavior and have been a committed guardian to both large dogs/cats for over 16 years. The exposure to a wide range of animals from horses to stick insects is what inspired me to sign up across across many different pet sitting sites so that I could increase my reach and access to the beautiful and quirky pets of Melbourne and Country Victoria. I want to become a pet sitter of choice for clients and their much loved companions.

I aim to provide a safe, fun and comfortable balance to your pets life whilst you are away. Play, stimulation and company for all animals is vital to their overall happiness, emotional stability and general wellbeing and I consistently provide regular updates either in video/picture or snapchat form. I am also extremely proactive when it comes to pet care including basic grooming and if you request I will have your pooch washed and looking fabulous on your return.

I am understanding to the needs of different animals and will work with you to best exceed those needs of both you and your pet. I have experience with senior animals, those going through the ageing process with medications/injections and holistic treatments. I also have experience with anxious/timid dogs and cats and am respectful of boundaries, noises, actions or personal behaviours that may threaten or trigger them.

It is always best to be completely transparent about the nature of your pet so that they are able to transition smoothly into the short or long period of your absence, so that I can cater to their particulars. I will even go as so far as to enquire about random daily habits like leaving lights on, background noise like tv programs or particular balls or sounds - trust me, I have heard and seen it all!

I have owned large and small dogs for most of my life including a Rhodesian Ridgeback x Mastiff called Jack, Jack Russell called Whoopey, Weimaraners Mac and Stella and currently my partners German Shepherd, Jet. I have basic dog training knowledge and have practiced this with my two weimaraners and currently am re-training my partners German Shepherd, working through his anxiety and social behaviours.

No animal is “too difficult”. They are all individual and special. I also have a tripod cat and understand the stigmatism people may feel in regards to an animal that may be missing a leg, an eye etc. I look at your best mate with love and compassion, they’re just that little bit extra special.

I have also owned cats for over 16 years and currently have one Burmese, Clio and one Bombay, Ziggy Starpod (my three legged cutie). I get cats and they get me. Most owners will exclaim how their kitty usually is dismissive or scared of newcomers. Since I was a child, cats all over the world have and continue to seek me out to say hey, and similiarly, at the dog beach I seem to be swamped by pooches for belly rubs and kisses! It’s no wonder Jackson Galaxy, The Cat Daddy, is my hero.

I am extremely happy and more than comfortable and confident to come to your home and care for your pooch or kitty if required. Many of my bookings consist of drop ins and day/night stays. I typically stay for up to two hours, I love to get to know your pet, play and watch their behaviour. I also sneak in an impromptu photo session too.

I am usually available to also stay overnight if you wish and am respectful of your home and understanding of personal space and boundaries.

Dogs require a lot more stimulation when you, the guardian, is away whether that be on holiday or at work. Larger dogs will require at least 2-3 hours of walking/play/running per day. If you have a working dog (Collie, Shepherd, Gun Dog, Kelpie) I recommend joining a Facebook group or local club that is breed specific. There are plenty of groups who will all join up together and meet at an off lead park/beach so they may all run together. If you are a new owner and have a pup that requires regular exercise/on lead walking/training I am more than happy to set up regular times/schedule to ensure that you and your pet are at ease and that they have the time to run until their little heart is content.

I have relevant Police Checks, First Aid and References for piece of mind and am able to be present early mornings 5am-9am and 6pm-10pm if you request.

All bookings have premium insurance subject to the provider you decide to book through.

With every Homestay I would be willing to also photograph your beautiful pet for you, 300DPI quality and TIFF format.

As I am now located in Beechworth, I will take bookings in Melbourne for weekends ONLY (unless otherwise pre-arranged in advance), and will also incur travel costs to be paid (typically a tank of fuel, Beechworth is 600km round trip).

Finally, If we cannot meet and I am unable to provide you with an outstanding service due to unavailability - I stress that you MUST meet and greet with every potential sitter and preferably if they are hosting your pet, inspect their property. I have already heard too many sad stories where sitters have not been transparent and the health and wellbeing of the animal has been grossly neglected or compromised. Report anyone who is not honest and who does not place your pets needs as number one! This is not an “easy money” job.

You must find someone whose actions outshine their words.
