The Basin community’s strong social networks and semi-rural environment highlight the importance of respecting and enjoying relationships with each other. We value the beauty and sustainability of this treasured natural environment in which we live and work, and which is honoured as the traditional land of the Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation.

We believe it is our role as educators to develop trusting, attentive, caring and respectful relationships with each child so that they feel safe, secure and supported.
We strive to foster and develop a love of learning in all children by consistently providing rich, inviting and open-ended play experiences and a learning environment which will excite, stimulate and challenge children while provoking a sense of curiosity, wonder and awe.
Children are capable, competent and resourceful. They are active participants in their learning and are encouraged to make choices and decisions, express their thoughts and ideas and assert their independence.
We strive to help each child to continue developing a strong sense of self and self-worth, while building positive and respectful relationships and connections to other people and their community. We aim to help children to understand their place in the environment and to learn respect for it, to value their health and develop a desire to maintain it, to understand and effectively use a variety of means of communication and to become confident and involved learners.
Our practice is governed by the National Quality Framework and the National Quality Standards. Whilst we operate under these requirements we constantly reflect on our practice and assess, evaluate and make necessary and meaningful changes to the program to enhance the service for both the children and their families.
The Basin Preschool philosophy is continually being reviewed as further insights are gained from reading, research and reflection.
