About me:
Marie Sansotta-Allen (Director TEAL HEALTH SOLUTIONS)
As a Credentialled Diabetes Educator and Chronic Care Co-ordinator, I am passionate about delivering quality care for persons with chronic conditions with a special interest in diabetes and education. I have a varied nursing background from research, education, for patients, staff and students.
My nursing career began in 1976 but for the last ten years I have worked in general practice, promoting self-efficacy and skills to enhance empowerment of one’s condition. I work with a multidisciplinary team in a primary care setting to provide expert diabetes care.
AS an individual provider my main aim is to educate people and give them the skills to better manage their own conditions. I am also involved with staff education in how to manage patients with these conditions. Thus I want to empower people to make better choices, better control for better wellbeing.
Diabetes self-management education (DSME) is a critical element of care for all people with diabetes AND improves patient outcomes.
The overall objectives of DSME are to support informed decision-making, self-care behaviours, problem-solving and active collaboration with the health care team and to improve clinical outcomes, health status, and quality of life
