It's well known that the Swedish (or Canadian if you'd prefer) candles were used during the Thirty year war by soldiers to keep warm, to cook or simply to get light.
It's basically a 360 cook top, relatively slow burning fire and a nice torch to look at. The rag or kindling inside the cuts of the log is wax-treated and protected from weather and can therefore be lit for 2-3 hours depending on the log size.
