Suicide Shatters Families

Suicide Shatters Families was founded by Laura Wilder Bass in September 2015, 18 months after she lost her husband to suicide. Laura started a Facebook page and at the time she said "If this page gets 200 likes and just one person feels supported then it is worth it". What started as a passion project driven by heart, lived experience and a genuine desire to let survivors of suicide know they weren't alone, has turned into something bigger than anyone, particularly Laura, could have ever believed.

In less than two years, SSF is now a not for profit organisation and the Facebook page has over 160,000 followers worldwide. The page has become a forum where those struggling with loss or mental illness feel safe to share their personal stories. The most amazing part about the page is the support the that the followers give to each other. Complete strangers offering unconditional love, acceptance, support and guidance. It shows the epitome of kindness and the amazing strength of the human form, even when dealing with the hardest and most tragic of circumstances.

SSF has big plans for the future so we can continue to support survivors of suicide, educate the general public about mental health in the hopes of reducing the stigma attached to it, and raising awareness for suicide prevention.
