More about StroopWaffle

A stroopwafel (English translation: syrup waffle or treacle waffle) is a waffle made from 2 thin layers of baked batter with a caramel like syrup filling in the middle.
We decided to name them "stroop waffles" half Dutch half English.

The first stroopwafel was made in 1784 in a bakery in Gouda (the city that is also famous for it’s delicious cheeses). The baker who invented this Dutch biscuit was fed up with throwing away
his leftovers, so he decided to use them to create a new treat.
He pressed his leftover crumbs in a round iron and sweetened it up with some caramel-like syrup. A delicacy was born…

If you have visited the Netherlands there are some things you have probably tasted, and the warm ‘stroopwafel’ is definitely one of those things!
Stroop wafels are tasty treats, especially when freshly baked.

The traditional way to eat a stroop wafel is to put it on top of a cup of warm coffee or tea. The diameter of the cup should be slightly smaller than the waffle. The steam of the hot beverage will warm up the stroop-wafel and soften the caramel inside.
