More about Southern Highlands Triple Zero Cricket Challenge

On 13 April 2016 the NSW Police Force, NSW Ambulance, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW State Emergency Service in collaboration with the Bradman Foundation and Wingecarribee Shire Council, will come together in the spirit of sportsmanship and harmony to play cricket and to raise funds to support a local youth focused charity.

Over $4000 was raised last year for the Highland Youth Hub in Bowral and we’re aiming high again when we support the Southern Highlands Suicide Prevention Program (SHSPP) in 2017. The SHSPP has been operating for over 10 years with no official funding relying solely on small grants, donations from individuals and volunteers to provide assistance to those in need. In 2016 they will bring ‘Mind Blank’ a program of awareness and innovative education in mental health topics for youth to as many local schools as possible and we’re working hard to make that a reality.

Sir Donald Bradman’s vision was “to engage, inspire and educate” our youth in the community and in 2016 as in the three previous years, the event is held during Youth Week and the NSW School Vacation. Our triple zero teams in conjunction with the continuous cricket match provide fantastic interactive displays and activities for the whole community designed to raise the awareness of the important role they play within our community and the opportunities that exist to become involved.

NSW Police were the inaugural tournament winners of the first challenge but an unexpected thunderstorm brought play to an end in 2015 and the trophy went unclaimed. The pressure is on to see which team will prevail this year.
