More about Snowline Paint Horse Stud

Our names are Kate and Rod Kruger and we own Snowline Paint Stud, along with our daughter Amelie. We live in the southern highlands, about 2 hours from the snow fields and moved here from Far North Queensland in 2008. We share our property with the usual menagerie of dogs, cats, chickens and more than our fair share of poddy sheep and cows, which Kate has rescued over the years. We are privileged to live in a beautiful part of the country with mountains, wildlife, sprawling countryside, meandering trout streams and a warm and friendly community around us.

Our stud Managers, Brendon and Nat Warren, are part of this close community and work with us in managing the stud. Both are experienced horse people with a wealth of knowledge in managing and handling horses.

We are located about 50 minutes south of Canberra. Snowline Paint Horse Stud is located on our property, Camelot. It is a 600 acre working property, where we run black angus cattle. We are in a narrow valley which is situated in the Tinderry Range, with Tinderry National Park and State Forest very close by. We are at approximately 1200 meters elevation, which means it gets a little chilly at our place from time to time.

We named the stud “Snowline” for good reason. Whilst we aren’t walking around in snowshoes in the winter, during the colder months we regularly have dustings of snow, and the occasional heavier falls which can make the road impassable. In fact, we have had snow as late as November, which was surprising for us Queenslanders!

The peaks around us will hold snow for longer periods of time, hence the name of the stud. Do horses like snow? We doubt it-especially those we brought with us from Far North Queensland. It took them a few years to become accustomed-as did we. Although they do tend to carry on like idiots after a decent fall, we think this is probably more to keep warm.

We have a small band of broodmares, who you can see on our related pages. We have chosen them for specific characteristics, and followed good genetics through strong breeding. Most importantly though, we have chosen for temperament. We have been very selective, and built up the herd over the last 5 years, before choosing our resident stallion DMB Mr Imprint.
