Shine Musical Theatrics

Selena is a musician, actor, mum, and a specialist Music and Drama Teacher with Bachelor degrees in Music, Psychology, Performing Arts (Acting) and Teaching, and 10 years experience teaching children from Kindy to Year 12.

She has a great rapport with children of all ages and is passionate about empowering them with skills and self-belief to walk tall in the world and "shine" throughout their lives. She believes children are all inherently creative and is dedicated to helping them discover and enhance their creativity, which is not only a key indicator of success in any chosen career (enabling problem solving ingenuity and innovation), but also a universal expression of humanity with immense power to bring people together and spread joy.

The practice of music and drama promises many benefits, such as enhancing listening, critical thinking, self-esteem, ensemble (team work), interpersonal/ communication skills and empathy, which are all increasingly important attributes in a world dominated by technology. Studies have shown that practice in these creative arts engages both hemispheres of the brain and enhances social and intellectual development.

Selena's drama classes are lots of fun, involving confidence-building drama exercises and games, and they also explore character-building virtues such as friendship, courage, forgiveness, persistence and compassion in a safe space through scripted and improvised scene work and play building, giving children the tools and inspiration to transfer these experiences into real life situations.

To borrow some lyrics from a well known old song... "I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way... Show them all the beauty they possess inside, and give them a sense of pride..." which should ultimately put our future in good hands and make the world a better place!
