Shakespeare Grove Artist Studios

The Shakespeare Grove Artist Studios is a council-managed facility currently housing 14 artists at the old St Kilda Bowling Club at 2 Spenser Street, St Kilda, near Luna Park. The site is shared with VegOut, a local community garden which has 140 plots tended by local residents and groups. The current community garden emerged from the old bowling green.

The northern tip of the Peanut Farm Reserve was used for lawn bowls from the late 1960s, and vacated in 1998. When local artists approached the Port Phillip Council requesting studio space, they were offered this site. The studios provide professional workspace for a wide range of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, installation and new media performance, ceramics, book illustration and fashion design. Studio artists have worked together to engage local residents through open days, educational tours, and through annual events and exhibitions.
