Following a public meeting in November 1942 the Sedgwick Bushfire Brigade was founded. Firefighting equipment consisted of a canvas beater per fire fighter and two rakes provided by the Forestry Commission.
The Brigade now houses two fire-fighting tankers, a lighting plant, and a quick fill pump, and is supported by 35 trained volunteer firefighters.
The Brigade not only attends fires and other emergencies on a local level: we have also participated in major fire events across Victoria, NSW and the ACT, and are increasingly involved in combined emergency services efforts such as flood relief.
