More about Seaford Cricket Club

The first evidence of competitive Cricket being played in Seaford by a Seaford XI can be found in “Call it Seaford” the memoirs of Carmen Tomlinson who recalls a "grass pitch cleared and mowed at the top of Admans Avenue”. Her memoirs detail at some length a game played on this pitch between the Seaford Cricket Club and Middle Park Methodist on the 31st of January 1921 with Methodist winning with a total of 80 runs.

The Seaford Cricket Club which still plays today, based at the R.F. Miles reserve on Seaford Road, was formed in 1924 to compete in the Northern Peninsula Cricket association and played their early games at Keast Park in Carrum before moving to our current home on Seaford road when the old sand pit was drained and filled to provide what is one the area’s most picturesque ovals from both a players and spectators perspective. With the transition to winter grass in the recent past the ground now maintains its green appearance throughout the cricket season and is considered by the local community to be one of the suburbs finest assets.
It did not take long for Seaford Cricket Club to establish itself as a power house local club after its inauguration in 1924. Only four years later, our 1st XI won the first of five consecutive Northern Peninsula Cricket Association Premierships from 1928 to 1933 and this achievement resulted in the Seaford Cricket Club being awarded outright ownership of the NPCA Perpetual Cup, which is still on display in the social rooms today. This feat was never repeated and Seaford still stands as the only club to have evoked the need for the Association to strike a new cup.

In 1965 the Northern and Southern Peninsula competition combined to form the newly constituted Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association and this association still presides over local cricket today. Again it didn’t take long for Seaford to establish itself as a major club winning the District Premiership in 1972/73 and then after subsequent promotion to the Provincial grade the following year winning both the Provincial 1sts and 2nds Premierships in that 1973/74 Season. More recently Seaford Cricket Club also completed a double header when winning both the 2007/08 season 1st and 2nd XI premierships in the MPCA Sub-District competition.
Since our first game of Cricket around 90 years ago the club has accumulated almost 50 premiership pennants and produced some of the best local cricketers to ever play the game. Below is a list of those premiership victories but if you read between the lines you will see a club that has always held its head high, regardless of the result, and provided an opportunity for locals to represent their suburb of Seaford through competitive sport and building the camaraderie and friendships that last a lifetime that come from the experience.
