What we want:
* Our community supports restoration and repair of the Pavilion.
* Retention of the existing theatre, music rooms, studios and community spaces.
*Improved toilets and change rooms.
* Respect for the built and cultural heritage values of the Bondi Pavilion Community Cultural Centre.
Here’s why we’re campaigning:
* Bondi Pavilion Community Cultural Centre is again under threat of privatisation.
* Bondi Pavilion has been a dedicated Community Centre serving the people for over 40 Years.
* The entire first floor will be privatised, locking the community out of this vital space. There is no business plan to support commercialisation of the first floor.
* Evicting the community from the first floor results in the demolition of the theatre, the music studios and the High Tide multi-function room.
* Waverley Council reserves and borrowings are being allocated to the reconfiguration of the first floor of the Pavilion to allow for its lease to a private operator - a misappropriation of public funds.
*There is currently no viable alternative place designated for the music rehearsal and recording studios.
* Current users of the Pavilion have received no guarantee that they can continue existing classes at the Pavilion following redevelopment.
* There is almost universal community opposition to the current plan. There were over 750 public submissions received against, versus 6 in support.
* Waverley Council’s plan blew out from $9 million to $38 million in less than a year. Many additional costs have not been included it will inevitably blow out much further.
* Woollahra Council have written to Premier Mike Baird saying Waverley Council’s decision to go ahead with a $38 million is in breach of the Office of Local Government guidelines against committing to major projects during the merger process.
* The Federal Senate has called upon the Prime Minister to reject the overblown plans for redevelopment of the Bondi Pavilion.
