Located at New Town, just five minutes' drive from Hobart CBD, this historic 19th century house was originally home to whaling Captain Charles Bayley and members of his family.
Now dedicated to marine conservation, the house contains rich collections of material related to whaling and maritime interests, as well as artworks and family possessions of the previous owner Bishop Francis Nixon, Tasmania’s first Anglican Bishop.
Runnymede survives with house, cottage and coach house within extensive gardens. The house and gardens are open to the public for most of the year by tour or special event.
The property has ample parking, extensive gardens and accessible public toilets. Group tour and school bookings are welcome. The house and grounds are also available for weddings and other events. Please phone us to find out how we can assist with your special occasion.
