Hi all, With the breeding season upon us there will be lots of excited and keen buyers out there looking to increase or start their feathered family.
However, before you start looking please take the time to research breeds and breed standards, think about what will suit your needs, talk to breeders, shop around and watch who has good feedback and consistently good comments about sales and prices of their stock.

As well as chickens I have bred horses and pedigree dogs for more years than I care to remember and I cannot state clearly enough how often I have had people come to buy my stock with sad tales of their previous pony/puppy/chicken purchases or hatches from bought eggs that have died or been totally unsuitable for their needs.

As a poultry breeder I keep and breed 7 different rare and/or heritage breeds. Not everything that hatches is perfect and to standard. I doubt that anywhere in the world there is a poultry breeder or any breeder for that matter - who can claim 100% perfection. However I firmly believe TRANSPARENCY is the key to being a reputable breeder. I make mistakes sometimes, but I try to the best of my ability to breed good birds and sell honestly. I try and keep my prices affordable. In doing so I know I am occasionally ripped off by devious buyers and I too have been ripped off by unscrupulous sellers, because no matter how hard you try there is always someone out there trying to make a fast buck from trusting people.

I have also been known to turn people away as unsuitable buyers of whatever breed they are wanting. Please understand that this is not because I am arrogant, it is because I am trying to be a responsible breeder and do the best by my birds as well as the buyer.
Sadly there is always someone out there taking advantage of unsuspecting buyers so I cannot say strongly enough, if you are looking at increasing or starting your flock Please research first! Go look at stock before buying! DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST and avoid heartache and problems for you AND your new charges.
