The Rio Tinto Alcan Gove Operations bauxite mine is located 650km east of Darwin in north east Arnhem Land. The operation is situated on extensive deposits of high grade bauxite, a burnished red ore with high aluminium oxide content. Bauxite is transported from the mine site along an overland conveyor to our stockpile area before it is transported from our deep water port. Gove can produce 8 million tonnes per annum of bauxite.
Nhulunbuy (pronounced Nool-un-boy) is located in picturesque Arnhem Land on the north-eastern tip of the Gove Peninsula. It is surrounded by white sandy beaches and the stunning blue waters of the Arafura Sea.
