The Retro Revamps Philosophy:





We believe that old furniture should never die - it deserves to be reborn. We do not obliterate the history of a piece - there is always a hint of its past. The underneath of our chairs is rarely painted. Any hints to the provenance of a piece, be it a label or stamp, are left intact, as is any writing.




We only buy pieces we love - they have to speak to us, preferably, sing!




We eschew paint stripper, and rarely use power tools, except on ancient enamel paint. With chairs, one of our favourite items to work on, we do not use fillers to 'fix' nicks and chips. These are part of the chair's history.




When it comes to paint, we only ever use chalk paint. It is non toxic and is much kinder to wood than chemically based paints. Chalk paint never flakes or peels, so our pieces will look great for many years. When used on outdoor pieces, it fades beautifully over time, still not flaking or peeling.




The signature of a Retro Revamps piece is the exquisite satin finish to the painted and/or waxed pieces. Long experimentation has helped us to develop a process that shows the beauty of chalk paint at its finest. Every piece has a sensuous 'touch me' quality. The wax makes a piece glow, rather than shine
