Resource Work Co-operative is a not-for-profit, self-funded worker’s cooperative. This means that the business belongs to the people who work there, and all the workers are in charge of deciding how the business is run. It also means that any profits we make are spent on creating new jobs, invested in the cooperative’s future, and donated to worthy causes. We have three main objectives that drive our work:
- To create employment
- To minimise waste
- To educate others about reuse and recycling
We have been running since 1993 and operate the Resource Tip Shop (a.k.a. The South Hobart Tip Shop), the Resource Collectables store, the Deconstruction service, the Community Pick Up service, and the annual Art From Trash exhibition. We also encourage visits by schools and community groups, run stalls at events such as the Sustainable Living Festival, and run workshops for schools and community groups.
