Early in 2015 we consulted a number of professionals and community services who felt there was a lack of support and resources for the LGBTIQ community on the north-west coast of Tasmania.
A lot of them felt they were unable to provide the assistance that was needed and through these consultations we found a lot of LGBTIQ people felt isolated and misunderstood.
We could see the need for a drop in center and by late 2015 we managed to secure the lower level of a residential psychologists building on the outskirts of Burnie’s CBD. This accessible, yet discreet space become the starting point for what is now known as Rainbow Connections.
We have transformed this location in to a comfortable, safe space for the LGBTIQ community to come and meet with one another, access resources and safe sex materials.
Rainbow Connections is the first of it’s kind to service the north west coast of Tasmania.
