Rainbow Beach Fishing-Classic

The event began in 1986, as a small community event set up on the main beach, founded by Ruth Modin, a long standing business & community member.

The event has always encouraged participation from all people who would like to try, or already enjoys, the basic pleasures of salt water fishing. In particular families that want an excuse to holiday and enjoy their favorite family recreational activity.

Over time the event gained support from the local Chamber of Commerce and was taken over by their committee. After many successful years the competition was faced with closure for a few years due to untenable insurance requirements.

It was quickly realized that the event had huge benefits to our region by continuing to provide regional economic activity as well as having a direct economic impact on our small regional community. Including many social community benefits as the events focus is on “Family” & “Community” which provides the motivation for everyone to come together, reconnect, enjoy and celebrate Regional Queensland lifestyle by participating in a fun outdoor activity.

In 2001 it was taken over by the Rainbow Beach Sports, Recreation & Memorial Club Inc (NFP) by the general manager, Rick Modin, the son of the original founder. In 2002, Linda Adam joined Rick Modin in organising this event and secured 5 years of funding through Regional Events QLD. This funding helped aid in the growth and development of the event. The Club totally underwrites this event picking up any financial & administrative shortfalls.

Now in it’s 31st year, the event has major support from sponsors, the community and has become very viable and successful.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic, one of South East Queensland’s most iconic and largest annual events and it is one of the few remaining fishing tournaments on the eastern seaboard.

The eight-day festival was usually held over the July school holidays (QLD) but in 2017 it will be 21st - 29th July.

The Rainbow Beach Family Fishing Classic is proudly run as a family and community event and is aimed at all ages and all levels of experience. Our emphasis is on enjoyment of the great outdoors and to showcase our region to competitors as well as the general public nationally.

Held on beautiful Rainbow Beach, the event attracts in excess of 750 local and interstate competitors and their families each year.

This year the event has added more excitement with loads of live entertainment, over $100,000 in prizes and promotions for competitors and spectators alike. You don’t need to catch a fish to win a prize.
