Quantum Victoria

Funded by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD), Quantum Victoria is positioning itself as a National and International provider and leader of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education.

With building works completed in December, 2011, the staff are currently working on a suite of exciting programs that embrace cutting edge, aspirational technologies with a particular focus on Games Technology, Virtual Reality, Gesture-Based Computing, 3D Printing, Robotics and the Physical Sciences.

Our blend of in-house and outreach programs will be supported by a state-of-the-art facility and ICT infrastructure, located at the new Charles La Trobe College, Kingsbury Drive, Macleod West. Features include a 150 seat lecture hall for teaching and public lectures, studio spaces supporting projectbased learning, a games development suite and technically rich laboratories that allow students and teachers to move freely and seamlessly from one learning space to another.

Building Teacher Capacity

Quantum Victoria believes that new, innovative forms of teacher professional development are the cornerstone of building teacher capacity in the 21st century. To excite the next generation of STEM students, Quantum Victoria will offer educators from all sectors a unique opportunity to re-envision their curriculum in ways that are relevant to today’s learner. Professional Development opportunities will include:

Our Name: Quantum Victoria

In physics, a quantum is the minimum unit of any physical entity. Aligned with this is the fundamental notion that physical property may be given a discrete value or “quantized”. This can also be described as identifying and clarifying a dynamic interaction – a very apt description of the aims of Quantum Victoria, as it sets out to help identify and clarify the exciting world of science and mathematics.

The word comes from the Latin “quantus” for “how much” as well as speaking of enquiry and of seeking. And this too lies at the heart of Quantum Victoria, as it nurtures and facilitates the development of knowledge and innovation in the fields of science and mathematics.

And “Victoria” is an important part of the name as it indicates it’s the brand’s location and presents it as a statewide leader and asset, available throughout the educational community of Victoria and beyond.
Our Symbol

The “Q” in Quantum represents an accelerating subatomic particle, and it is here that the world of Quantum Theory comes to life. Inspiration was drawn from the Rutherford-Bohr Model of the atom.
