More about Preveli Wines

Preveli Wines is a boutique, family owned vineyard with its cellar door in Prevelly. This coastal hamlet, central to the Margaret River wine region, is famous for its spectacular surf and rugged coastline.

Established in 1995 by the Home family, Preveli Wines has a vineyard in the Wallcliffe Sub Region of Margaret River. The wines are all Estate grown from their vineyard using sustainable practices, located in the cool south-east of the Margaret River wine region with 28 acres, half under vine, amongst the pristine rural town of Rosabrook. Margaret River is surrounded by oceans on three sides of its Capes, this maritime influence providing a constant moderation of temperatures, creating ideal ripening conditions. The Southern Ocean influence brings welcome cooling during the warmth of summer and The Indian Ocean waters bring a warm Leeuwin Current during cooler evenings of Autumn, naturally regulating conditions during vintage.

Preveli takes its namesake from the village of Preveli on the Greek Island of Crete, in honour of the brave locals and monks that assisted the ANZACs during WWII. Corporal Geoff Edwards was given refuge from the Germans by these hospitable Hellenes, so when he founded the seaside hamlet of Prevelly and developed Margaret River's first holiday caravan park he commemorated them. Together with the Greek Orthodox Church he also build the Greek chapel that proudly sits on the hill overlooking the surf breaks as you drive into Prevelly, a local icon. The Home family later purchased the Prevelly Caravan Park and today caters for those seeking stunning surf and wine as the region has evolved! Pioneering four generations in Margaret River through owning dairy farms to caravan parks then getting a taste for wine and developing a bottle-shop and vineyard, today you can chew the fat with Greg Home and do a wine tasting of the Preveli Wines range from their onsite bottleshop the Prevelly Liquor Store overlooking the Bombie surf break where the international Margaret River Pro surfing competition is staged annually.

Margaret River produces only 3% of Australia’s grapes but over 20% of it’s premium wines. Vines were planted strategically in 1967 after being identified as having a maritime climate similar to that of Bordeaux in France. Distinctive vine growing soils are weathered from an ancient land mass 2000 million years ago of decomposed granite into iron rich clay and laterite gravel loams. One of the most remote wine growing regions in the world with a natural beauty creating an inspiring, relaxed and creative spirit making it a bucket list tourism destination voted in ‘World’s Top 10 Regions’ by Lonely Planet 2010.

Preveli Wines are made under contract at Fraser Gallop Estate by chief winemaker Clive Otto who is one of Margaret River's most awarded and respected winemakers with over 20 vintages crafted in Margaret River.
