Polymer Dreams Lab

The Polymer Dreams Lab is in the Coburg community and offers a space where people can relate and reflect on the ways we live. Give voice to imagination and expression to ideas and dreams for the future. Create community, share skills and be empowered.

The polymer:

The design of a plastic recycling system that makes a by-product of our society recognised as something of value, as an example of a resource which our current social system sees as a burden.

By creating a material suggestive of the environmental impacts of our culture we can use it in the design process as a vehicle for conversation to reach a broader audience.

It is an attempt at provoking feelings of accountability for lifestyle choices and empowering people to act on the role they play in this culture/society.

The Dreams:

The ‘dreams’ will emerge through a series of community workshops where ideas, insights and future desires are brought to the surface. A space of relation and reflection on the ways we live through story telling, enacting and making.

A place where people can:

relate
be and feel creative
make a contribution
give shape to the things among which they live
put these things into use in caring for and about others
The Lab:

The Lab aspect is where the inspiration and ideas generated in the community workshops are put into action. The intention here is for our community to re-discover our resourcefulness and feel empowered to act on our ideas. To shake patterns of habituated passivity and shape a future we desire. A network of shared skills and knowledge is mapped and the encouraged.
