Phantastic Phalanges

As nails are attached to the body, I feel that art on nails can be as beautiful, personal and meaningful as any other form of body modification, but since it is not a big investment in time or money, and can be modified or removed as the owner sees fit, it is the perfect visual medium for individual freedom of expression on a day to day basis. Bright and cheerful one day, sombre and brooding the next, it can express to the world far more than just "I have pretty nails". It is a medium that has long been overlooked as a simple fashion or as another cosmetic, but like "street art" was long thought of as merely vandalism and graffiti until it was "discovered" for its true nature, eventually the potential of the small canvas and highly personalized nature of art on nails will be realised.
