Peterborough High School was established on its current site in 1927.
- Current enrolment is 94 with 5 students enrolled from neighbouring schools.
- There are 11 teaching staff, 9 ancillary staff , Pastoral Support Worker, Aboriginal Education Community Officer and a groundsman.
- The school offers a broad curriculum with an increasing access to Industry Pathway Programs through Trade Schools for the Future.
- The curriculum is delivered both face-to-face, by distance education and off site.
Peterborough developed as a ‘Railway Town’, and with the closure of the railway’s workshops the emphasis has changed to being a service town for the surrounding pastoral industry or smaller communities; tourism is also increasing in importance.
The town is about 3 hours travel from Adelaide and 1.5 hours from Port Pirie and Port Augusta.
Peterborough has facilities such as supermarket, hospital/doctor, post office, bank, Rural Transaction Centre, retail shops, hotels/motels, petrol stations, public and Catholic primary schools, high school, churches and visiting services.
