More about Outwest Angus

Outwest Angus is situated on the flat western plains of NSW 50km west of Coonamble.

Ewens great grandfather James McLeish started cattle breeding in 1901 on "Sandy Camp" Quambone - our daughters Diana & Belinda are fifth generation cattleman.

Outwest Angus was founded in 1988 by Ewen and Marg McLeish, the stud is based on cows from the Bronmar Stud at Quirindi established in 1964 & still run by Margs parents Barry & June McFarlane. Additional heifers were added from Farrere & Mundoo Studs. Diana, Marg & Bindi

Outwest Angus is truly that "out west", with no other stud operations in close proximity.

Coonamble area is renowned for its broadacre farming. Outwest Angus does no farming. All cows are run on natural pastures all year round with the winter season of June July generally being the best time of year for pasture growth of natural clove r& medics, crowfoot & barley grass.

The Outwest Angus herd consists of 300 cows all registered and our commitment to breeding cattle is such that this is our sole income. We source our genetics from North America using our industry contacts & regular trips to USA every two years to look at bulls & their progeny. All our yearling bulls & females are ultrasound scanned every year for EBV data.

All our cows are artificially inseminated using only imported high performance sires with high accuracies. Breeding goals include selecting females with maternal characteristics such as milking ability & efficient reproduction. By using bulls with high value carcase traits & maintaining our selection for maternal traits we are adding value to our clients calves.
