More about Our Lady of the Way School, Emu Plains

We aim to foster a school environment that recognises the unique learning path that each child takes. By providing a rich array of stimulating learning experiences we give our students every possible opportunity to:
learn how to be
learn how to think
learn how to choose
learn how to learn
learn how to relate.

The school was opened in 1979. Miss Shirley Wilks was appointed Principal at that time and remained until the end of 1982. Mr Patrick Magee was then appointed Principal until he retired in July 1992. Mrs Georgina Cox was appointed Principal commencing in 1993 and Mrs Kerry Mahony was Principal from 1995 to 2000. Mr Peter Gibson was Principal from 2001–02 and Mr Allan Jones commenced as Principal in 2003.
In 1979 the school had a total of 52 children in two classes - Kindergarten and Year 1. By 1983 the school population had grown to 223 in nine classes, some of which were housed in demountable buildings. In October of 1982 a new primary block, comprising eight classrooms, was officially opened and blessed by Bishop Bede Heather, and in 1985 four additional Infants classrooms were added. Adjoining our school is our beautiful parish church which was opened in May 1993.
In 2007 ten of our classrooms were refurbished to provide considerably expanded and modern learning spaces. During 2009–10, a further two learning spaces were built and the Kindergarten classrooms were completely refurbished.
A major refurbishment of our student toilet facilities has recently been undertaken, along with a 'breezeway' which will better connect each side of the school.
As the population of the Nepean/Lower Mountains region continues to grow and expand, we can look towards a very encouraging future where Catholic education can continue to spread the Word of Christ.
