More about Silver Cloud Designs

Silver Cloud Designs (prev. Ollie & Me) is a local, small individually-run handmade boutique based in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. My range of both clothing and gift-wear is primarily for infants and children, from newborn through to around 10 years of age, with some items coming for adults, too.

Silver Cloud Designs was originally founded in 2013 under the name Ollie & Me (named after my son Oliver). However, once we found out we were expecting baby #2, it didn't take long to realise that I was going to outgrow the name 'Ollie & Me' within a few short months. Thus the decision was made to re-brand at the conclusion of my maternity leave and re-launch as Silver Cloud Designs on 1 July 2017.

Why the name Silver Cloud Designs? I'm often told by many that I always manage to see the silver lining i.e. the bright side of things.... as the silver lining refers to clouds, I loved the name Silver Clouds... thus Silver Cloud Designs was born!

The sewing passion runs in my family, and I wished to create for my children as I wanted them to wear clothing which fitted properly, was constructed with high-quality, was made with love, and was unique (i.e. not worn by half of the children population!)… and I wanted to share that passion with everyone else too.

Why pay an exorbitant amount of money to billion-dollar companies who often mass-produce everything in factories overseas with poor/unethical conditions and underpaid & overworked machinists? The construction is poor, the clothes often lose their shape and fall apart after very few wears… and they clearly don’t pre-wash their fabric as the clothing smells like chemicals when you buy it.

I now am an advocate for buying handmade as much as possible. Supporting a local family, often a mum who wants to spend as much quality time with her child/children as possible whilst still being able to contribute a small amount to put towards bills/mortgage etc. – this is what is important to me. Handmade is often a similar price to some of the well-known brands of children’s clothing, and is (to me) so much better. So why not buy handmade? I challenge you to support Australian, support local, and shop handmade. xx

Love,
Kelly
