「滴水坊」之名，來自「滴水之恩，湧泉以報」，以茶會友之意。中國自古便非常重視「報恩」思想，歷史上關於感恩、報恩的故事更是不勝枚舉，這種報恩的思想對導正社會善良風氣能產生非常大的影響力。
星雲大師在創建佛光山的過程中，獲得萬千信徒的喜捨幫助，使道場在廣大信徒的護持與佈施下逐步發展成長。因此，大師感懷於信徒的奉獻與基於回饋的想法，經常教育我們要「滴水之恩，當湧泉以報」。正是由於這種信念，「滴水坊」之名遂由此而生。

目前佛光山全球各別分院共有超過二十處設置滴水坊，並分別與美術館、書坊、文物館結合，使其功能不僅是素食的提倡，更是一處兼具文化、書香、藝術氣息，可充實信徒心靈世界與提升文化教育內涵的好去處。

「滴水坊」的設立並不在商業、謀利，而志在給予信徒、大眾方便，只要能為大眾提供一個方便的用餐場所，雖然只有一壺茶、一份餐點，也能讓人吃得歡喜、吃得健康，就是大師當初設立滴水坊的最大理念。在物價波動大的現代社會中，以平價實惠的消費，提供大眾一個素食與知性的心靈饗宴「走進滴水坊，您將以禪香妙味洗滌性靈。」

To “repay a drop of water with a gushing spring” is the aim of setting up Waterdrop Teahouse by Venerable Master Hsing Yun in the five continents of the world. It signifies the intention of repaying kindness to all devotees.

To realize the mindset of repaying kindness by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, International Buddhist Association of Australia (IBAA Kogarah Branch) has specially set up an elegant Waterdrop Teahouse for all to meet and relax besides paying respect to the Buddha. It is hoped to provide a warm and cozy environment for all devotees to rest and interact with one another while appreciating the fragrance of vegetarian meals and the beauty of the Dharma.
