More about My Small World

My Small World has a range of unique, miniature handcrafted gifts based on the very rare skill of handwritten, micro writing. Our writing can be extremely small with individual letters and numbers varying in height between .2 mm and .7 mm dependent on the nature of the task.

Ideal for special occasions, our clients can select from micro written works integrated with Jewellery such as pendants and lockets to specially framed verses or prayers, Limited Edition prints, Artworks, Postage Stamp Limited Handwritten Editions and Keyrings. For some of our items, we will shortly be introducing fabric-based products.

Our clients can choose from our range of prayers/verses and Jewellery or we can custom write your special message and include it in your own items if preferred. We have many examples of our work included on this page and our website.

Micro writing has a long history going back 2500 years and probably longer with the use of Cuneiform Clay tablets engraved with miniature hieroglyphics. From then on many ways and uses were found adapted for the inclusion of micro written content including by most major religions and even the ever-present world of Espionage and spies.

Examples can be found in the Jewish Faith where wonderful works of art were created initially to avoid falling foul of strict religious protocols which prevented the creation of 'craven images' of the human form. The ever ingenious Art fraternity created their works with miniature writing which had the appearance of people but were, on close examination, purely handwritten words. Examples are posted in the images file our Facebook page and website.

Micro Writing has been commonly used in Espionage for many years under the broad category of 'Clandestine Communications', a term that sounds much better than 'Secret Writing' !. We have examples of micro written code beneath postage stamps as used by the Alice Dubois British and French Intelligence network from 1915. In this case a special symbol code was written in miniature and invisible ink before being hidden behind a Dutch postage stamp. In ww2, the British Intelligence unit known as SOE or Special Operations Excecutive, made use of a technique known as 'Ink H' which effectively disguised micro letters within normal sized letters. The method itself was devastatingly simple, normal sized letters were written in ink, a sharp and hard pencil was then used to write the micro letters within the inked letters and finally anlother layer of ink was added to the inked and pencilled letters. To all intents and purposes, anyone who saw the letters would think they were in fact just plain ink writings. If, however, the recipient knew what the letters were, they would immerse the paper containing the hidden writing in what was effectively a strong, bleach, type solution. This had the effect of removing the ink and leaving only the pencilled and secret letters which may have formed a coded message. In fact I discovered an example of this kind of writing associated with a 1948 South Australian cold case. More on that on our web page!

Our Limited Edition (Each release will have just 100 units unless otherwise stated) postage stamp offerings have proven to be very popular with our first set, The Gallipoli Memorial stamp almost sold out.

What we do is to micro write special and relevant verses or text onto the backs of selected Postage Stamp issues. Each Stamp is handwritten in miniature and has its own serial number between 1 and 100 and is signed by myself as the writer. This approach makes our Postage stamps very collectable with good investment potential.
