More about Murrenbong Scout Campsite

Murrenbong comes from an Aboriginal word that means 'good camping place'.

It was in 1953 that the land at Kurwongbah was purchased by the North East District of Brisbane (Groups then extended from Breakfast Creek to Redcliffe). There were 11 Groups (631 persons) in the old N.E. District being Hendra, 1st Nundah, 2nd Nundah, Hamilton, Geebung-Zillmere, Northgate-Virginia, Clayfield, 1st Kalinga, Pinkenba, Wavell Heights and 1st Ascot. All of these Groups donated £100 towards the cost of the land.

So you can see - Murrenbong truly belongs to the Groups in Brisbane North Region. Until the recent creation of the Regions, Murrenbong was a sub-committee of Brisbane North Area and has always been managed and maintained by a Committee of volunteers.

Since 1953, successive Committees have worked hard to bring many improvements to the site - still keeping the natural bushland setting. There are 150 hectares of natural bushland in the Petrie-Kurwongbah area.
